Marietta, GA - On the heels of a recent purge of nearly 500,000 voter registrations from the rolls and with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office targeting yet another 150,000 voter registrations for possible removal, Indivisible Cobb will rally on Saturday, September 20th to remind Cobb voters how crucial protecting the vote is for our democracy.

Democracy dies in silence and threats to voting access are among the quietest but most consequential. Whether it’s aggressive state “purging” initiatives or federal actions such as the Trump administration’s latest executive order threat to eliminate all machine voting and mail in ballots, these measures don’t suppress ballots with violence or bans; they restrict access by redefining who can vote and how, inching toward reduced participation.

“Since Trump’s loss in the 2020 Presidential election, the Georgia state legislature has attempted, and often succeeded, in passing laws designed to reduce voter eligibility and participation. The long-term health of American democracy hinges on vigilance, legal safeguards, and public awareness in terms of access to the ballot,” according to Stacey Parlotto, a member of the Indivisible Cobb leadership team. “This upcoming off-year election on November 4th features a number of key municipal, county and statewide races, such as the two open Public Service Commission seats. Those elected this year will be making decisions that will directly impact Cobb County citizens for years to come. We are reminding people that there is nothing as important as 1) participating and 2) safeguarding the right to vote.”
