Veterans Day Reminds Us Government Must Support These Patriots Despite D.C. Shutdown

Marietta, GA - More than 37,000 Veteran’s Administration employees are currently furloughed due the federal government shutdown. Services such as outreach to veterans is limited, the GI Bill hotline is not staffed to serve the more than 1,000,000 eligible veterans, and vocational counseling for service members leaving the military is canceled. Maintenance has stopped at veterans’ cemeteries. VA regional offices where veterans go to get their questions answered about disability claims are closed.

This is NOT how we should be treating those who have sacrificed so much.

“We will be rallying this Wednesday at the Cobb County Veterans’ facility to remind everyone our federal government has an obligation to veterans,” said Stacey Parlotto, a leader of Indivisible Cobb. “We also want to point out that scores of military families often access SNAP benefits to feed their families. The Trump administration using SNAP as a bargaining chip is a disgrace. And, while most medical needs for these families are met by TRICARE, 1 in 10 non-elderly veterans (about 800,000) rely on Medicaid, which will be impacted by reducing ACA subsidies.”
